One of the big secrets about Microsoft and Android is that Microsoft has over 300 patents used in Android licensing agreements. That means Microsoft makes a lot of money because of Android. In fact, they make multiple billions of dollars annually on Android patents. So, they don't take it lightly when a company churns out an Android phone without paying up. Microsoft is suing Kyocera because they say their Duraforce, Hydro, and Brigadier phones violate Microsoft patents.
In the suit, Microsoft asked a federal judge to impose a U.S. sales injunction against Kyocera's phones. If granted, that would deal a huge blow to Kyocera as they would not be able import the phones into the US.
Interestly, Kyocera was recently showing off a Windows phone. Will Kyocera change its plans on Windows? Stay tuned.
