Dropbox announced a partnership with Microsoft via the company’s blog Tuesday. The partnership makes a ton of sense for both companies, and will bring a huge stable of users to both companies. Even though Microsoft has its own OneDrive offering, Dropbox has 80,000 business customers and millions of consumer users, so it makes sense for Microsoft to reach out to Dropbox.
Because of the partnership, users of Microsoft’s mobile apps will be able to access Dropbox from within the Microsoft apps. Likewise, users of Dropbox’s mobile apps will be able to edit Microsoft documents from within the Dropbox app.
Dropbox says the new features will come to iOS and Android apps in the coming weeks. Similar features will be launched on the web sometime next year.
