Get Lycoris (Linux) For Your PDA

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - February 03, 2004

According to a recent report at LinuxDeivces.com, Lycoris will ship a version of its desktop Linux operating system designed specifically for handheld devices. The OS is expected in the second quarter of 2004. The OS, dubbed Desktop/LX Pocket PC Edition or DL-PPC, will provide a "commercial-ready" OS.

DL-PPC will initially support ARM-based PDAs such as the Sharp Zaurus and HP iPaq. It does use a standard Linux kernel however, making it relatively easy to port to other architectures.

We've heard about Linux and PDAs in the past and it has never been able to take hold. There have been several reports recently touting the benefits of Linux and even projecting that Linux would beat Microsoft in the market share war of PDAs and Smart Phones. We'll see.
