In a recent CNET interview, former Nokia executive Lee Williams says current Nokia CEO Stephen Elop is "struggling." Williams admits to being a bit of an arm chair quarterback in the interview, but he still makes his feelings known. He believes Elop does not have an overarching vision for Nokia.
Williams thinks Nokia jumped the gun when it went all in with Windows Phone. He would have preferred introducing one or two handsets with WP7 to see what happened. Instead, Nokia acted like it was a "one horse race" and abandoned Symbian in favor of Windows Phone. Time will tell if it was a smart move, but it sure looks like they're paying for it now.
Williams also says Elop is acting like a CFO and not a CEO. It's an interesting interview. Check it out at the link below.
Williams says Nokia's CEO appears very much the man without a plan. "Elop hasn't delivered a roadmap. He's been there for two to three years and there's really no roadmap," says Williams. "There's no overarching vision for this company. That to me is akin to stepping completely out of the leadership role and running behind the bus now... Before Elop, Nokia would never give up that leadership position and role in the marketplace, would always talk about the future."
