George Kurtz, CEO of the security firm CrowdStrike, warns of a new vulnerability in Webkit based mobile browsers that allow attackers to take control of a smartphone. It is possible that by using malware and attacker can gain access to the phone. Most mobile browsers these days, including iOS, Android, and BlackBerry browsers, are designed with Webkit.
Microsoft on the other hand, decided not to use WebKit to design their browser, but built it themselves. This means that Windows Phone is the only mobile OS currently immune to the WebKit malware vulnerability.
Mr. Kurtz will be demoing the vulnerability at the TSA security conference tomorrow. There is not much users can do to avoid the security hole until it is patched.
