According to several reports, Microsoft has quadrupled its Windows Phone Q4 sales over last year, selling about 4.2 million Windows Phones so far this quarter. Microsoft has not released the official numbers yet, but several blogs are using publicly available data to take an educated guess at the sales figures. Is it accurate? Maybe.
BGR is confident enough to report on this so my guess is there is definitely an uptick in sales numbers. Steve Ballmer has repeatedly told investors and press people that Microsoft will be relevant again in the mobile space. Does he know something we don't?
Using publicly available “monthly active users” data from the Facebook app for Windows Phone, blogs have been able to accurately estimate Windows Phone device sales in the past. New MAU data starting at the beginning of October 2012 was recently analyzed, and The Next Web estimates that Windows Phone sales so far this quarter total approximately 4.24 million handsets.
