Palm Treo 800w Impressions

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - July 14, 2008

Palm has officially launched the Treo 800w on Sprint and we've got some impressions. We'll provide a full review later.

Our initial impressions are that the Treo 800w is a nice upgrade to the previous Treo models but with some drawbacks. It feels small in your hand and feels much lighter to carry. The display is sharp, the processor is speedy and it works very well for email. We're really happy that the microphone is now on the face of the device, but in our tests the Treo still has loads of background noise that make it hard to use when surrounded by noise (at the mall, while boarding a plane, etc.).

At first the keyboard felt "cheapy" but we found it much easier to type on than previous Treo models. The keys seem lighter and wider for some reason.

Palm has ditched the Treo/Centro connector and gone with a single microUSB connector. This is a problem for those who have lots of Treo chargers on hand. It also means you can't be on a wired headset and charge the device at the same time. Palm also left out a headset plug. Very lame.

Palm uses the same battery as the Centro and we have to say, it's lame. They claim you'll get 4 hours of talk time or 200 hours of standby but our battery has been draining quite fast when under heavy usage. We'll miss our Seidio extended battery for the Treo 700wx.

Overall it's a nice upgrade for those who were using a Treo 700wx or 750. The display is sharp and the keyboard is nice. If you're willing to buy all new accessories this is a great device.
