As expected, Bill Gates has announced the next release of Windows Mobile a the Microsoft Mobile & Embedded DevCon 2005 (MEDC). The new Windows Mobile 5.0 has some significant enhancements including support for built-in hard drives and USB 2.0. There are two versions of the software, one for Pocket PC's and one for smartphones.
Another significant enhancement is support for persistent memory storage. Persistent memory storage retains information even when the device's battery is depleted.
Windows Media Player 10 Mobile is now integrated into Windows Mobile 5.0 and enables users to synchronize playlists, album art, and song ratings from their PC.
A new pictures and video application adds advanced features such as burst mode and a timer function.
Changes have also been made to Internet Explorer, like a full screen mode (finally!).
