BenQ Pocket PC Phone Available Next Month

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - January 06, 2005

BenQ has announced that its P50 smartphone will be available next month for about $800. Because of its size and integrated 802.11 wireless networking capabilities, it is the first Pocket PC Phone to pose a real threat to the Treo 650 line of smart phones.

The BenQ P50 will run Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Phone Edition instead of Windows Mobile for Smartphones. It will have 64 MB of RAM as well as a SD/MMC slot for additional storage capacity.

The P50 is a GSM/GPRS wireless phone that will run on 850/900/1800/1900 MHz networks. Although the phone will be out next month, no carrier information has been released at this time.

The BenQ will include a 1.3 megapixel camera with flash in its small frame. This phone will measure 4.7 x 2.4 x 0.8 inches, and will weigh 5.3 ounces. It is slightly larger than the Treo 650, but does include Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.
