Ready, Aim, Fire! -- Atomic Cannon Pocket

Software Reviews - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 02, 2004

Atomic Cannon Pocket by Isotope 244 Graphics, is a tank combat game for Pocket PCs with impressive graphics and sounds. Many of us have played those basic tank combat games in the past but get ready for an updated version that will rock your world.

The basics of the game are obvious. Choose your weapon, take aim at your opponent, and fire. It sounds simple enough, but you will soon discover that this game is very difficult to master. You must choose the weapon, power level, angle of aim, and then fire, hoping that you've got it right. My first time up I overshot my opponent and could not really zero in on him before he blew me to pieces. After a few minutes of playing you will get the hang of it and be able to put the hurt on your opponent.

Atomic Cannon features over 50 weapons, 25 terrains and 5 weather effects to keep things interesting. With the level of customability that Atomic Cannon provides you can setup so many different games it's almost ridiculous. You can go from a simple one on one duel to a full blown war using multiple tanks and weapons. Very cool!

One of the best features Atomic Cannon offers is the landscape video mode. You obviously get a larger screen to play with, and Atomic Cannon lets you choose between two landscape modes so you can choose which way you want to hold your Pocket PC.

Along with the landscape modes Atomic Cannon includes several levels of graphics detail. You can go from an old school style (retro style) of play, to a detailed style. I wouldn't bother with the retro style but some people might find it fun. The detailed view is much better and will frankly blow you away.

Overall I'd give Atomic Cannon a thumbs up. It's customization and playability are superb. The only complaint I have is the lack of wireless play. It seems you should be able to play against your friends via IR or Bluetooth. I hear this feature may be in the works though so we won't give up on Atomic Cannon for that. Check it out!
