T-mobile Announces MDA III

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - June 29, 2004

T-Mobile has announced a new version of the MDA II Pocket PC-based smartphone. The MDA III will come to T-mobile during the fourth quarter of 2004.

A few details were released about the upcoming MDA III but it will include Wi-Fi 802.11 wireless capabilities. It is also known that it will feature the traditional tablet Pocket PC design. However, the MDA III will also include a slider that reveals a QWERTY thumb-keyboard when open.

When closed, the unit measures 4.9 x 2.75 x 0.75 inches and weighs about 7.4 ounces. The operating system will be Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PC Phone Edition.

One of the major improvements of the MDA III is the longer battery life. T-mobile says the device will last 25 percent longer on its battery charge than the MDA II.

Unfortunately the MDA III will not include Bluetooth. This is very surprising especially when the MDA II included Bluetooth.

The MDA III should make its way to the German market sometime in September. It is not known if it will be shipping anywhere else, thought it is likely that other mobile operators in Europe will offer the smartphone.
