For any PDA gaming enthusiast one of the most exciting news items is the announcement that a developer is readying a mobile version of a console or arcade hit. A true test of a developer's merit is their ability to port these complicated games to the mobile device successfully. Gameloft has taken on this challenge in their version of Rayman Ultimate for the Pocket PC. Will this game be the Ultimate Success or will it be a flop? Read on to find out.
Overview
Rayman Ultimate for the Pocket PC brings the original Playstation hit to the Pocket PC. The concept of the game is simple. You're in control of Rayman, and you must safely navigate him through more than 60 levels in 6 different worlds on a quest to free the Electoons from the clutches of Mister Dark.
Game play
One nice feature of Rayman Ultimate is that it plays in landscape mode. I think that landscape mode is something that more game developers should take advantage of. It's a great way to utilize the screen on the Pocket PC to its maximum potential.
The screen is divided into two non-equal parts. The larger part which fills the upper 80% - 90% of the screen is the game screen. The bottom is left for on-screen controls. Gameloft is using an innovative combination of on-screen and d-pad controls to enable all of the Playstation functionality to be brought to the smaller device.
