AT&T Wireless Requiring Some Users to Replace Their Phones

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - March 08, 2004

AT&T has decided to move on from some of their customer's cell phones. Apparently, the phones listed below do not work well with AT&T's GSM 850 coverage and rather than fix the problem, they are just moving on. If you own one of the cellphones listed below and live in the New York metropolitan area, Northern New Jersey, Eastern Pennsylvania, Los Angeles, San Francisco Bay Area, Las Vegas, or Seattle, there’s a good chance that AT&T doesn’t want you to use it much longer.

Engadget has a very detailed article about just what is going on over there at AT&T but the short of it is the following. If you use one of these phones, you will continue to have poor reception and AT&T is not going to fix the problem.

Here are the phones:

  • Motorola MPx200
  • Nokia 3650
  • Nokia 8390
  • Nokia N-Gage
  • RIM Blackberry 7210
  • Siemens SX56 (Pocket PC Phone)
  • Sony Ericsson T68
  • Sony Ericsson T68i

AT&T does have a replacement program but the phones they are replacing with are not all that hot. They are as follows:

  • Nokia 3100
  • Nokia 3200
  • Siemens C56
  • Sony Ericsson T226

For all the details about how this happened click the read more link below. It's a hairy situation that was totally avoidable, but AT&T's reputation for poor coverage is going to continue.
