Motorola Recalls MPx220 Smartphone

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - November 17, 2004

Motorola has reportedly pulled the recently released MPx220 Windows Mobile 2003 smartphone off Best Buy's shelves due to a firmware glitch.

According to several reports of a Mobile Gadget News forum posting which reproduced a page allegedly taken from the Best Buy's internal web site, all MPx220s must be "pulled from the sales floor and put back in warehouse".

There seems to be a problem with the earpiece being too soft. There is no patch that users can apply themselves. Motorola will have to replace the handset for users instead.

Handsets shipping from November 12, 2004 should contain the updated software. Look for an orange sticker on the box if you purchased a MPx220 recently. The orange sticker indicates the updated handset. Motorola, has asked MPx220 users to contact it for a replacement, with new handsets being shipped within two business days.
