SerialLink 2.0 Announced

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - October 29, 2004

SYWARE, Inc., announced SerialLink™ 2.0, the newest version of the company’s serial port integration software for Microsoft® Windows Mobile Pocket PCs. SerialLink allows developers to quickly and easily integrate serial input devices into their Pocket PC and Windows CE applications, whether managing inventory, conducting market research, or making reservations. The latest edition includes support for Semtek’s iSwipe™, a three-track magnetic stripe card reader for Compaq iPAQ handhelds that can be used in a variety of retail or enterprise applications. SerialLink 2.0 can also now pre-pend and post-pend characters in a string, such as adding an or character as a start-of-input or end-of-input signal. The software can be set to pre-pend and post-pend letters, digits, special characters, linefeeds, carriage returns, and tabs.

“SerialLink expands the capabilities of Windows Mobile devices by supporting a variety of serial-enabled input devices, including bar code scanners and magnetic stripe card readers,” said Sy Danberg, President of SYWARE, Inc. “The software requires no device modifications, no programming, and best of all, is one-third the cost of other keyboard wedges. We are especially pleased to be combining the strength of our application development tools with Semtek’s innovations in transaction card products.”

“Our goal is to help developers take advantage of the tremendous number of emerging opportunities in mobile card processing.” said Dennis Mos, Director of Sales and Marketing, Semtek Innovative Solutions Corporation. “iSwipe is enabling new applications in a range of industries and SerialLink is a simple, cost-effective solution for all types of portable data applications. Bringing the two together is a winning combination for the mobile commerce market.”

SerialLink applications can be created on any Microsoft Windows Mobile, Windows CE, or Pocket PC handheld. The software is available immediately at www.syware.com and is priced at $49 for a single-user license or $500 for a pack of 100 licenses.
