Dell Looks to Fix Windows Mobile 2003 Slowdown Problem

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - July 18, 2003

Dell has acknowledged that there is a problem with its Axim line of handhelds running Windows Mobile 2003 for Pocket PCs and has stopped shipping them until it can fix the problem. Users had been reporting significant slowdowns after upgrading to the new Windows Mobile OS.

A Dell spokesperson told News.com, "We are aware there is a performance issue with the Axim running Pocket PC 2003. We are working to implement a solution for our customers." According to the spokesperson, the problem is in the version of Windows Mobile 2003 it created for its handhelds, and therefore only affects the Axim X5.

Although Dell has not announced a release date for the fix, it will most likely be posted on the Dell web site when it becomes available.

You can still order a new Axim X5 but you will not receive the order until a fix is found for the problem.
