News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - June 23, 2003

SYWARE, Inc., a leading developer of intuitive, mobile database tools for business and personal productivity, announced Visual CE® for Windows Mobile 2003, database and forms development software for the newest generation of Microsoft software for Pocket PCs -- Windows Mobile 2003. Designed for a wide range of application environments, from sales force automation to insurance forms to inventory management, Visual CE provides Windows Mobile 2003-based devices with a powerful array of mobile development tools, including full support for GPS devices, complete picture control, multi-device synchronization, and a wide range of numeric, string, and date functions.

"Organize remotely and connect widely – these are the elements that drive today's mobile industry," said Sy Danberg, CEO of SYWARE, Inc. "Microsoft Windows Mobile 2003 software takes the market to the next step by providing support for a variety of wireless networks and an expanded set of telephony functions. Together, Visual CE and Windows Mobile for Pocket PCs deliver a powerful platform for easily deploying mobile applications in companies large and small."

"The Windows Mobile 2003 software platform provides an enhanced mobile experience with its wide range of connectivity, messaging, and media features," said Mary Rose Becker, Group Manager for the Mobile Devices Division at Microsoft Corp. "We are pleased to work with SYWARE as a launch partner for Windows Mobile 2003. Visual CE's data management and forms development capabilities allow for easy creation of the mobile applications that are powering today's mobile workforce."

Intuitive Application Development
Visual CE for Windows Mobile 2003 is a full-featured, relational database program. It provides an intuitive, drag-and-drop interface for quickly designing flexible forms and databases, no programming required. Database forms can be designed, maintained, and run in full color either on the handheld device or the desktop computer. Once the application is developed, records can be easily beamed from one handheld device to another. Users can also share data with popular ODBC-enabled software like FileMaker Pro, Lotus Approach, Sybase, Oracle, or Microsoft SQL Server, Access, and Visual Basic.

Full support for GPS devices means Visual CE can read and store positioning information for a variety of field applications that have traditionally relied on slow, paper-based communication. In addition, the software provides complete control of images and global variables for more flexible handling of data. Calculated controls can handle scalar functions, including 24 new numeric functions, 15 new string functions, and 9 new date and time functions. Other features include pop-up word lists, the ability to create pre-defined data filters, robust font selection, and multi-select dropdowns. A macro programming capability allows for the easy creation of multi-step sequences.

Visual CE continues to offer an advanced feature set. Macro programming allows for the easy creation of multi-step sequences. Integration with mEnable®, SYWARE's breakthrough wireless architecture, extends Windows Mobile software applications with real-time, interactive access to server data allowing mobile devices to be easily integrated with enterprise business processes. Visual CE also works in conjunction with Report CE®, the world’s only report writing tool for Windows Mobile-based Pocket PCs. In addition, royalty-free distribution of Visual CE applications means developers can quickly deploy their programs throughout the company at a fraction of the price of any other database program on the market.
