Syware Brings Database to SmartPhones with FoneDB

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - May 22, 2003

SYWARE, Inc. today announced the immediate availability of FoneDB™, the first database software for Smartphone devices. Based on Microsoft® Windows® Powered Smartphone software, FoneDB allows mobile operators, wireless content developers, and end users to quickly and easily create full-color, data-driven applications for mobile phones without programming.

"Data serves as the bedrock of today's information-driven world," said Sy Danberg, CEO of SYWARE, Inc. "FoneDB combines the power of instant access to data with the broad reach of mobile phones, taking personal productivity to a new level. Need to find an approved parts supplier while at a remote client location? Want to locate an Italian restaurant for a last-minute dinner with the in-laws? FoneDB allows individuals, publishers, and corporations to easily create and publish a wide range of mobile databases for business or personal use."

Creating Data-Driven Apps
FoneDB is a quick and easy way to create applications for Smartphones that support the collection, display, and modification of data. FoneDB applications are driven by forms that are designed on a desktop PC. No programming is required as forms are built with a set of common controls: labels, edit boxes, check boxes, drop-down lists, and buttons. Data can be formatted as text, integer, floating point, currency, date, or time.

Once created, each FoneDB form is a compact application that is able to store and retrieve data. FoneDB applications can be downloaded or emailed to one or more Smartphones. Data can be transferred between Smartphone devices and between Smartphones and desktop PCs. In addition, data can be shared between a FoneDB application and an ODBC-enabled application on a desktop PC, such as Microsoft Access or Oracle.

No Digital Signing Required
With FoneDB, SYWARE continues its commitment to simplifying the database development process. In addition to FoneDB's intuitive development environment, individual application developed with FoneDB do not have to be digitally signed before they can be run on a Smartphone. This means that the costly and time consuming task of securing a digital signature is not needed before a FoneDB application can be deployed on a Smartphone.

"Smartphones are an important opportunity to distribute mobile information to an untapped base of phone users, both individual consumers and corporate employees," said Sy Danberg. "According to a study by Microsoft and Edge Strategies, Mobile Operator Business Value Model for Smart Devices, as the mobile phone market matures, mobile operators face a significant decrease in the average revenue per use. For mobile phone operators, FoneDB provides a platform for new data services that will increase average revenue per user. For corporations and content developers, the software can provide instant, remote access to indispensable data."

FoneDB Professional Edition runs on any Microsoft Windows Powered Smartphone and is available for immediate purchase from the SYWARE online store at http://www.syware.com.
