Intel Announces Three New Processors

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - March 25, 2003

Intel has announced three new processors for PDAs that promise greater performance and long battery life. With more PDA manufacturers inlcuding resource hungry features like Wi-Fi, color screens and built-in cameras in their devices, there is a need for greater processing capabilities in a smaller chip.

The new processors include:

  • Intel PXA263 - Intel's first stacked processor for PDAs. Available in 200 MHz, 300MHz, 400MHz versions.

  • Intel PXA260 processor - a "pin compatible" processor. Available in 200 MHz, 300 MHz and 400 MHz versions.

  • Intel PXA255 processor - the replacement to the Intel PXA250 that extends the overall system performance and battery-life of PDAs.

The Intel PXA263 and Intel PXA260 processors are sampling today with production volumes expected in the second quarter of 2003. Products using the new processors will be available later this year. The Intel PXA255 processor is already available in products now from companies such as Acer, Casio, Dell, Intermec, Symbol and Toshiba.
