Ruggedized Recon Released

Handheld computer maker Tripod Data Systems announced today the Recon mobile computing device, a rugged handheld designed for extreme environments.

The TDS Recon delivers maximum performance and reliability in a lightweight and extremely rugged design that’s easy to carry. The waterproof Recon weighs just 17 ounces, and it exceeds military specifications for drop, vibration and both high- and low-temperature operation. The Recon works wherever and whenever you need it.

The Recon is intended for mobile computing applications including land surveying and mapping, civil engineering and construction, military and law enforcement applications and more. The Recon is waterproof and exceeds military specifications for drop, immersion, vibration and both high- and low-temperature operation.

The device runs on the Windows CE .NET 4.1 operating system and is available in two models. Both models include XScale Processors, 64 MB of SDRAM, and reflective color TFT displays with LED front lighting for indoor and low-light conditions.

The Recon mobile computing device starts at $1,499.
