Major League Baseball on your PDA?

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - September 09, 2002

RealNetworks, Inc. and MLB Advanced Media have partnered to bring Major League Baseball games to fans who can’t make it to the ball park. Customers of a qualified wireless carrier who have Short Message Service (SMS) capability can log on to www.realone.com/mlb, select their favorite team and become a Gameday Audio Mobile subscriber.

Connected fans will get the local audio feed for their hometown heroes no matter where they are through their mobile phone or mobile PDA, even getting an SMS-text reminder when the broadcast is starting. Users can then simply dial “#MLB” or hit “Enter” on a browser-enabled mobile device to get to the live MLB.com audio feed. If they need to see how their cross-town rivals are doing, they can either use a voice-recognition command, such as “Change Game… Seattle Mariners,” or simply get mid-game updates via SMS messages.

“It’s great to be able to offer baseball fans the chance to catch MLB.com Gameday Audio live broadcasts of their favorite team wherever they are using their mobile phones,” said Martin Plaehn, Senior Vice President, Media Systems, RealNetworks, Inc. “This is an excellent service for today’s connected fan and provides a glimpse of the new sports, news, business, music and entertainment programming that will be delivered by mobile operators to consumers, using the RealNetworks Mobile Suite.”

RealNetworks is providing this new consumer capability through RealNetworks’ 2G extension to the RealNetworks Mobile Suite, which delivers live and on-demand news, sports, business, entertainment, and special interest audio to existing 2G, new 2.5G and future 3G mobile devices.

Consumers who are interested in subscribing to Gameday Audio Mobile can visit www.realone.com/mlb for more details.
