Viewsonic Offers V35 Owners a Refund

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - December 13, 2002

It has been widely reported over the last week that the Viewsonic V35 specs are deceiving. Although the device specs state that it ships with 64 MB of RAM the truth is that only 36.5 MB of that memory are actually available to the consumer.

The reason for the discrepancy is that a portion of the 64 MB of RAM is being used by the Pocket PC 2002 OS. Viewsonic initially stood by their claims saying that it is common practice within the computer industry to list physical memory available rather than stating the amount of memory that is acutally avaiable to the consumer, but pressure from enthusiast web sites has caused a change of heart within the company. Viewsonic has altered their marketing material. It now contains a disclaimer stating the lower amount of memory available to the user.

In addition, a Viewsonic spokesperson has stated that any consumer who purchased a V35 under the assumption that they would have access to the full 64 MB of RAM may return the device for a full refund.
