TotalRemote: Control With Your Pocket PC

Accessory Reviews - By: pdaBlast! Staff - December 17, 2002

The Bad
The only real problem I had with the TotalRemote is that it made the Pocket PC think that a headset was attached. This prevents any sounds from being emitted by the device. While this is not a problem while you are actively using the device there may be times when you inadvertently forget to unplug the TotalRemote from the headset port, and you may miss a reminder or an alarm. I could see this happening if you use the TotalRemote to control your TV while you are preparing to go to sleep. If you don't unplug the unit from the device before going to sleep you may miss the wake-up alarm that you have set.

Overall
Overall I am very pleased with the TotalRemote package. The IR bud is well constructed. When I saw the press release and initial images I was a little concerned that the little IR bud may be too fragile, but the unit is quite sturdy and well constructed. The IR is strong, and the software is very simple and intuitive to use. Griffin Technologies has added a few special features which make their product stand out, but they also managed to keep it simple enough for anyone to use. TotalRemote gets a very deserving score of 8.5 out of 10.
