Packard Bell to Release Low Cost Pocket PC in Europe

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - November 01, 2002

The trend amongst Pocket PC manufacturers has been two fold. One line seems to be the move towards high priced, fully featured devices. These devices are incorporating various features including built-in 802.11, bluetooth, and some even include biometric scanners as a part of the device. The other trend is the push towards a series of affordably priced Pocket PCs for the consumer market. Packard Bell has decided to add their name to the list of device vendors looking to release a low cost Pocket PC.

According to Packard Bell's website the specs for the PocketGear 2030 will be as follows:

  • 200 MHz Intel® X-Scale™-prosessor
  • 64MB RAM
  • SD I/O Slot
  • 16-bit reflective TFT display

The PocketGear 2030 is scheduled to have a retail price of roughly 299 GBP when it is released. There is no word on whether NEC will release a similar prodict for the North American market.
