Siemens recently introduced a new Pocket PC Phone. The Siemens SX56 Pocket PC Phone will be available through AT&T wireless beginning sometime this month.

According to published reports the SX56 will be offered in two versions. The first version is an enterprise version and the second is a consumer version. No information is currently available regarding the differences between the two devices.

Here is a listing of reported specs:

  • High-speed wireless data rates of up to 40 Kbps
  • 900/1900 MHz GSM/GPRS utility in North America and internationally
  • Large, 4,096-color touch screen display
  • Pocket version of Microsoft® Office® Applications
  • Microsoft® Active Sync to PC
  • Text messaging to any email address
  • Short memo and conversation recorder
  • Phone and short message service
  • Built-in microphone speaker and MP3 stereo player
  • SD/MMC slot for extra memory
  • Infrared data interface (IrDA)

    Editor's Take
I spoke with a representative at a local AT&T wireless store and he seemed very excited about the SX56. Although he wasn't able to provide me with too many details he did say that he had seen some demos of the device and it was definitely something he would like to purhase for himself.

Although many current users feel a desire to carry one do-it-all device I'm still someone who would prefer to have a phone that is a great phone, and a Pocket PC that is a great Pocket PC. I'm not saying that I don't think it is possible to do both, but I simply prefer to have to units - even if that means carrying a few more items.
