Two New iPAQ Devices on the Way

News - By: pdaBlast! Staff - October 02, 2002

Hewlett-Packard has announced plans to release two new devices before the holiday buying season. The two devices are apparently going to be at opposite ends of the price spectrum for Pocket PCs. The first device is expected to come in the $200 - $400 price range, and the other device should be in $400 - $650 range.

HP says the decision to come out with an mid-priced unit is simple. That particular price range accounts for roughly 50% of the handheld market. Details are lacking, but we do know that this lower end unit will be thinner and smaller than previous iPAQ models. This is good news for first time buyers looking for a small form factor, but it may turn off existing users becuase existing sleeves will probably not work with the new devices.

The high-end device is being marketed at corporate buyers. This high end device will feature built-in 802.11b wireless and Bluetooth capabilities. A biometric fingerprint scanner will also be included as a part of this device. The scanner will provide an easy way to secure iPAQ devices in the corporate environment.
