One of the most commonly asked questions I get when I talk about Mobius is "What is Mobius?" so I thought I'd begin my Mobius 2002 review with a short explanation of the event.
Mobius is an invitation only conference where Microsoft gathers influential members of the mobile device community for a glimpse into Microsoft's vision and future devices. Mobius 2002 was held on Microsoft's campus in Redmond, Washington and guests stayed at The Bellvue Club Hotel.
While at the event we engaged in formal and informal discussion of mobile devices and also viewed presentations from several different groups. Many of us who were at previous Mobius events have seen changes in the OS that came about due to the dialogue that was presented at these events. The Mobile Devices Group at Microsoft is really open to listening to the community and allowing users to take an active part in determing the path that the OS follows.
Overview of Presentations
Rather than give details about each and every presentation that we saw I'll touch on some of the presentations which I feel will be the most interesting to general consumers.
The Tablet PC is being described as the evolution of the Notebook PC. Although this was a mobile devices group event there was a lot of buzz generated by the Table PC demo. I have a feeling that in a few years time the Tablet PC will have conquered much of the Notebook market.
Wrap-Up
Last year when I went to Mobius I thought it was a great event. This time around I would have to say that it was even better. Beth Goza and the entire Mobile Devices Group has done a wonderful job putting together this event. I would like to thank them for the opportunity to meet them and hear some insights into the future of Microsoft's Mobile Devices.
Although the presentations at Mobius are always excellent I would have to say that some of the best times I've had at the event are simply interacting with other invitees. This year the group of invitees included members representing the following sites:
Brighthand, Clie Source, Club PPC, Devbuzz.com, Fiercewireless.com, Flashenabled.com,Gadgeteer, Geek.com, Gizmodo.net, Howard Chui, Infosync, Lockergnome, MySymbian, Palm Infocenter, PDA Avenue/PDA Live, PDA Buzz, PDA Blast, PDAntic.com, Phonescoop.com, Pocket PC Thoughts, The Feature, Treo Central, Wireless Software Info, Writing on Your Palm, Zauruszone.com.
